interesting how its actually supposed to be used for predicting bullet flight path and such...kinda cool, kinda.....seems like people were bored.

Bored? It's called; genius, resourceful, professional.

I like the Ballistics app for the IPhone/IPod Touch. It looks very useful and I would get it if I had such a device.

Although, you could also use this: [Link] (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=4867)

My friend just got one of those over in Japan. He says he uses Google maps like all the time. That and when he's really bored he watches porn on it.

That would be cool except for that fact that it would get all shot up

chances are if you have enough money to put an ipod on your gun; you have enough money to replace it WHEN it gets shot

Chances are if you're hanging a iPhone ballistic computer on your gun you're gone when the bad guys show up.

And if the iPhone ballistic computer hanging off your gun is getting shot up you've got bigger problems.

Ya know, I just wrote this off when I first saw it. Taking a look at it now, with the iPhone's accelerometer and gyroscope, it would make a pretty good ballistic computer. Zero it with your gun, have the right program, and it would be faster than adjusting windage and elevation on your sight. Couple it with the camera on the back and you have a range finder.

I'm fairly certain this was in no way intended for airsoft so the guys saying this is a stupid idea thinking that they bb's would beat it to hell are on the wrong track. If you want to attach your ipod to your airsoft gun you got some issues or lots of money.

The big bonus is that the iPhone is a low cost full powered, easy to develop for computing platform capable of running custom apps like the ballistics software. No other COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) product comes close really especially considering the halo of products surrounding the iPhone such as the Otterbox that's actually used to mount the phone to the Picatinny rail. Getting a custom computer manufactured with the said qualities costs big dollars in small runs and even more in one-sies-two-sies. In addition, the iPhone costs a fraction of what the rifle and optics cost that it's attached to.

I find it interesting that the kid named "SNIPY" calls a weapon mounted ballistics computer stupid. Oh, I'm sorry. Retarded

GoRed6's right this is the closest ballisitic's computer I know of

http://barrettrifles.com/optics_bors.aspx

and it's quite a bit more expensive and the iPhone also calls stuff and plays games and music! Yippee!

I can't believe I'm doing this; using Future Weapons as a reference but here goes...

What the iPhone in the Otterbox replaces is the handheld as seen at 1:41+. Another feature, no stylus to lose.

Yea but honestly, who would like to go through the trouble of all that?

the screen could also mess with your vision in dark areas...
but then again night vision...but i dont think you'd be able to read the screen while wearing night vision....i still think its kinda...less beneficial than it is problematic.
i wouldnt use one.

I don't know how many people actually read the article, but it appears to me that the intended application is for snipers, aka, the only people really needing to know all the information provided anyways. The screen would not mess with night vision, as the night vision device would be in the rifle scope. All they're trying to provide is a faster alternative than a sniper sitting there with his notebook, adjusting the scope for estimated windage, humidity, etc. This is pretty much, push button, adjust scope, shoot. Kudos to whoever thought of this genius application for a phone.

those words usually hint to someone's opinion. IMO i wouldnt use one because it is possible to measure distance and wind affects and such without computer assistance. and does it really matter? im not going into the armed forces, so its not like im ever going to need to kill someone and "measure windage and bullet travel" get over it.

I'd never go on a nuclear powered spacecraft because IMO that'd be dangerous. And besides because I'm never going to Mars.

PS The iPhone isn't used to measure windage nor distance. It's a calculator.

well its still possible to estimate it without it is all i've been saying.
so i dont really find it necessary

So tell me exactly why necro = bad.

He didn't make a new response thread to expresses how he feels. I fail to see the harm here anyway. It's not like there is even an active discussion in this sub-category.

To answer his question. Yes it is real, if you have the money to do so we shall dub you dub.
