When I got my first AEG (TM MP5A4) I slammed down on the charging handle and it being cold outside that day the thing broke right off. then later on that same day my spur gear stripped which rendered the whole gun useless, pretty much that whole day sucked.

I once acquired a ICS MP5 from goose(nuke0070). I tore the thing down to make a couple quick adjustments and make sure it was properly shimmed and lubed. He had said that the gun had never been taken down before, so this was an essential step.

So once I had the gun down, re shimmed, and re lubed... i put it back together with a new hopup bucking and lost ALL of my compression. I spent nearly a day working on that gun trying to get the thing to shoot the way it should, but alas, I just couldn't do it. Just before I was about to give up and replace the gearbox, when I was talking to goose on the phone one night.

I was explaining to him the problem and the FIRST thing he said was: Check your the pressure hole on the cylinder... and sure enough... it was toward the front of the box, letting the compression out of the gun before it would fire a round...

That wasn't a horror story, but more of an embarassing tech story.

However, at OP: Decisive Horizon, I spent the whole morning getting people checked in and ready to go and completely forgot to take care of my own weapons. So when the time came for the game to start. I got to the objective and has someone ready to die in my sights... pulled the trigger... and nothing happened. Pulled it again and still dead.

That day, I had to field strip my M15a4 carbine... in the field to fix the electrical problem that existed within the gun. THAT was an interesting day.

i bought a gun off of kurt used it at whfo. the first day worked fine, then the second day the pistion craped out, so then kurt changed piston and then it broke then he did it again then broke again and again and again, so then he got it fixed then i went to a mimbane game. then it broke again. then kurt put in all the upgrades at the game. so then now it has been working good ever since.

Oh i've got a horror story, the inspiration for this thread. I've had my Echo 1 G36c since 9/15/07 minor problems nothing major. A few days back I tried to fire her and she fired but there wasn't any power to her, this being odd since there's an m110, CA polycarb, and Alumunim piston head. I opened up the gun and saw the piston moved when the trigger was pulled, something wasn't right. Cracked the box and oh lord the scene. The o ring unseated itself and got wedged inbetween the piston head and the cylinder wall midstroke. This warped the cylinder into an egg like shape, all the while the gears where stripping my piston and sending plastic shards everywhere. Finally when sector grabbed the piston, it ripped it out from under the piston head. The gears also filed my tappet plate down slightly its not much but its noticable. Somehow my cylinder head is also cracked. The only term for this situation that i've found that fits is that I FRAG'D MY GEARBOX.

Part I
I was giving my M16 its first extended field test at GI Joe episode 2. During the second to last scenario, an OPFOR came out of the tree line, so I fired a burst at him and caught him across the chest, but as soon as he dropped, my gun began making the dreaded "GREEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH" of death. Not having the tools to fix it myself, I dropped it off at Cool Stuff and they replaced the piston and a blown bearing.

Fast forward one week. I pulled it out for Direct Action in Lamar, PA and got it set up as my marksman rifle. After chrono, I took it to the target range to zero my scope and fired about 10 rounds in semiautomatic. Suddenly, GREEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH!

I about punched a tree. I fought the entire day with my AK and pistols, which resulted in very few successful engagements, though the rest of my team had working weapons, which lead us to victory.

The week after that, I had it sent back to Cool Stuff and they replaced the piston for free, as it was still under warranty. They did the second tooth mod, which was supposed to alleviate timing issues. During the week, I took it out to my back yard to do some target practice. I put about 200 rounds downrange before GREEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHH.

I was ****ed. I finally went out and bought tools, ordered parts, and tore open the gearbox myself. I replaced the piston and downgraded my G&P M120 motor to a TM EG1000. This eliminated the piston shredding problems at least for the time being.

Part II
I tinker with things incessantly. So eventually I got the brilliant idea to drop a PDI 210% spring in the M16. Since I had taken down the M16 so often, I was able to install the spring without a hitch. However, when I hooked up the motor to do a test, I got it to pull the spring back about 3/4 of the way before it jammed.

At first I thought it was my battery, but after I gave it a full charge, the same thing happened. I had to open the mechbox to release the spring. After several frustrating attempts at disassembly and reassembly, I got fed up and tried reinstalling the M120 that came with the gun. When I got the box back together and test cycled it, it sounded like I was cutting a live cat to pieces limb by limb.

So I pulled out the cylinder set and checked the gears; shimming was good. By this point, I had spent a little over 2 hours, finished 4 takedowns/reassemblies of the mechbox and was extremely ****ed off at my gun, so I went to bed. I woke up the next day and replaced the motor with my G&P M120 motor and it worked fine. Apparently trying to run a 210% spring killed my EG1000.

Jarhead's upgraded para AK went down so I went to work. Mind you this was the second or third mechbox I worked on so I didn't have a whole lot savvy airsmithing under my belt.

Anyways, I get the mechbox out of the gun and see that one of the bearing races blew out and I saw the sector gear axle all crooked. At this point the spring was pulled almost all the way back with a lot of oblique tension built up inside of the mechbox.

Slowly and methodically I loosened and removed the shell's screws. The every which way tension inside held the works closed like a clam. So I took a little screwdriver and barely touched the mechbox when it exploded into atomic bits all around the room. Somehow I didn't get hit with anything but parts were behind me. I searched for I don't know how long on my hands and knees.

I put everything into a box after I unsuccessfully tried to reassemble it several times. That thing became my airsoft nemesis. A few days after returning it to Jimmy in bits he gives me a call and says, "All done!" I was relieved!

I'm at an indoor event last feburary with my trusty m16/870 masterkey, plus a gas pistol, plus a small springer.

All started well, untill a shell in the shotgun jams. "No worries, I'll just use the rifle part" I say to myself. Well then my buddy's gun goes down and he asks "Hey, can I use one of yours?". So I sit out a game to disassembe the masterkey and put the stock back on the shotgun and clear the jam. All ready to go.

Next game, we're just about to breach a room when I hear the familiar hisssss comming out of the shotgun stock. The gas hose actualy split and was leaking. "Ok, no worries, that's why I brought a side arm". I pull out the clip, make sure it's loaded, fire a test shot, and I get a "click" instead of a "pop". The mag must have leaked the gas slowly throught the day and was now bone dry. I tried my backup clip with the same result.

So I came to the game with 4 working guns, and now I'm down to my 48 fps 11 round spring pistol that I had in an ankle holster in the middle of a game. I figure should take point, at least I'll serve a purpose by revealing the enemie's positon.

My (at the time) brand new SCAR was in a crippling accident when a large piece of wood (part of the hq for my team at op decisive horizon) fell on my gun and snapped the piece that locks the stock in place. Electrical tape has been my best friend.

Jager's brand-spanking new Echo 1 G36 pouring smoke out of the magwell the first time it was fired was a pretty good one. Especially since the volume of smoke was so great that it looked like someone dropped a mil-grade smoke canister in there and let it rip. Still laugh about that one.

My forays into the mechanical world with my first M4 (CA M15 Tactical Carbine), and the spring guide shooting out of the gearbox...and through my closed bedroom window. Also, any time I try to adjust the motor heigh, use a new motor, or even take the pistol grip off and put it back on I strip the gears or lock up the gearbox. I'm terrible with motor heigh adjustment.

Finding my hopup was just a piece of electrical chord was a good one as well. Lynn's battery exploding in my room, 2034820348 problems getting my guns upgraded by people, annnd my G&P delta-ring being stuck on my gun even when I used an armalite tool and a hammer to get the bastard off.

Best though was at the last hadax game miles repairing my gearbox. First engagement my gun stopped firing. So Miles took it apart and we tried everything to figure out what the problem was. We thought it had something to do with the trigger unit, but it turns out some tiny little knub on the inside of the gearbox shell snapped off, which prevented my trigger from resetting. So after buying a whole new gearbox shell to fix the ONLY part in my gun that couldn't be easily replaced, Miles transferred all my parts into my new box in the middle of the game, on a wood pile that was right between both sides...who were both attacking at the same time. We got really shot up, and Nick (that bastard) used us as cover, but he fixed my gearbox. Epic moments include bbs wizzing by both our faces, Miles reshimming the box when the screw-driver in his hand got shot, and someone shooting the cig out of my mouth. 0_0

My first AEG was a Marui MP5 PDW. I hated to take the battery out and I use to charge it while it was still in it. Well I guess there was a short in between the battery and the gear box. I ended up melting the reciever and parts in the gearbox.

Wellll....I bought a JG AUG and I was planning on using it as a good upgrade platform. My first upgrades started simple; I put in metal bushings, re-shimmed it, M120, new piston head, new air nozzle and it worked great for a long time! Until, I was playing an outdoor game with my buds and from my AUG I hear a great whirring sound of gears spinning and about 50 bbs just fell out of my barrel! So, I get it home, open it up and AH a stripped piston. No worries pop in a new one and 7 shots later and 7 bbs falling out of the barrel, spin go the gears! Another stripped piston.... okaaay so now onto a polycarb and a new shim job. I had cool stuff re-shim it and got it back and popped in an Area 1000, a tightbore, an EG 1000 and a kick-ass phantom kit. Worked great! Then, GASP it just stops shooting...ok so back to cool stuff...I need a new wiring harness! Ok thats in and it works! But after about 3k shots down at AA, spin go the gears! So, I'm at the end of my rope here. Kurt, could you shim this please? Kurt shims it, I buy a 45 dollar piston pop it in and yes! Success! And after about 1k shots, a few hi-caps, the gears just spin again. Another stripped piston.... At this point, the AUG had become a curse unto me and I despised its very existence. I finally threw in the towel with it....those who know me....know me best for my AUG. It wasn't just a lemon, it was a melon...

down grade the spring and see if it still eats pistons
